Is this even worth my time anymore?

Heya guys,

Before you read this, no... I'm not depressed. ^^; I'm just wondering something. (If luck serves it, I'll probably forget how I feel by tomorrow...hopefully.)

I've been thinking a bit, lately... I've had a bit of... well, actually, I don't have an art block at all. I'm actually drained of any motivation to draw right now. As I was thinking, trying to come up with something good to draw, I began to question if drawing and posting on DA is even worth my time anymore. Don't get me wrong, I have some fans... I think... I guess more so FREINDS that FANS. (There's a huge difference there.)

I took a look at my last three deviations. Here's the stats for them:

Matilda Greenstone:
-+Azillien - Colored+-:
Ref- Paku Lampley:

To me, that's barely anything compared to how much time I put into this stuff. But, I though, "Maybe I should check my featured?" Here's the stats for that:

-+Day - Colored+-

Again, for that picture, barely anything. (Keep in mind, the comments include my own, so it's actually less.)

I started to worry a bit, but I thought I'd take a look at my most viewed and most faved pictures... I did... and they're both the two inflation pics that I regret drawing in the first place. It'd figure that the only picture that breaks 100 views, let alone 500, would be an inflation picture...

But, that's what bugs me, ONE out of about 100 of my pictures even broke 100 views. This is what makes me wonder if it's even worth my time anymore. I love to draw, but if no one will look at them, why bother?

Anyways... no I'm not leaving DA... I'm gonna give this one last try. If I can't manage to get some good views and some decent comments and lets say... 7 favs, I probably won't post anymore.

Sorry you had to read that. I love you guys...

In all honesty buddy, the only thing thats gonna sell on either DA, FA, or SA, or what ever....Is sex e_e and its really depressing, Unless its absolutely EXTRODINARY....or has a faint sniffit of sex....IT wont do anything, which is a shame really, cause you have some good stuff =3

Sex sells ANYWHERE, though. ^^;

You never really do know where your mind is capable of taking you until you let it drift on it's own.
yeah sure it does, but The Web Artworld seems to be the Primary consumer.

DA is meant to be a place where you can share your talent. I mean... there's no reason to leave unless you don't want to draw anymore. And if you leave but still draw, then who gets to share in the viewing experience? ; )

Besides, I get so many less views than you do and like, no comments or favs on anything, and I have three watchers, and I've been on DA for half a year now. You shouldn't leave just because you're not popular or anything. This is a place where you can share your talent with people. It would be a shame if you left because you wouldn't be able to share that talent of yours with other people anymore. ; - ;

Don't let the numbers bug you so much. You don't have to be popular for your artwork to still mean something. : )
I think a lot of people on here are asking this same question. The problem with DA is that it is extremely hard to get noticed here; there are a lot of very talented people I know that barely get any attention. I think it not only has to do with sex, but most people also look for fan art. Right now, some of the most popular works I have are fan art. A lot of very original stuff gets ignored, so unless you're already extremely popular or realllllllyyyy good, chances are not many people are going to stop by. It's a really hard fact to swallow, but it seems to be what goes on from what I've learned.

I more or less came to this conclusion: post what you feel you want the world to see, no matter how few or many see it. A lot of great artists were completely ignored when they first came out, but they soon grew in popularity (some during their lives, some not, guess it's a mix of good/bad example!) If you feel that you still want to close your account, I won't blame you or stop you, but I'm just saying not to worry over statistics, and just let the people come in time. Of course, I'm not saying it's wrong to feel bad if not many people look at your work, I sometimes feel that way, too, but just be proud of what you did and the rest will follow, whether or not it gets a lot of views at the time.

College is the best and worst four years of your life.
Aw man, you shouldn't let the numbers and popularity get to you. Trust me, if that's what you worry about it'll suck all the fun out of being on DA, or any online art community. I really don't care how popular or unpopular I am. What I DO care about is that there are a few choice people who enjoy my art, and that when I draw stuff, it makes me happy knowing they'll appreciate it as much as I do.

Plus, I rarely draw any sort of fanart, and I don't think you have any either, but that's what most people come to see on DA, unfortunately. I don't wanna just draw anime or video game fanart or sexy womens to get more hits. If I want to make practically every picture in my gallery of Kouen, then I darn well shall!
Honestly it's up to you whether you think dA is worth the time or not. I know I have seen your art improve a lot since you started, though, and I have fun watching that!

But I know that the pic I spent 10 hours on may get 50 views, when the pic I spent two seconds on get so many more, and sometimes that annoys me, but ... well... there's nothing you can do about it. Especially not if you don't want to pander to drawing all the art that's popular (like ~indyfox said) And I know none of us do. :)

dA has basically just turned into one big popularity contest.

I hate that.
It's supposed to be about ART and a lot of the popular people only draw fan art, porn, and animations that everyone drools over.

Veh, attention whores. ><

But truthfully, they don't have all that fame in real life. People on dA don't give a sh*t about them as people. They only like their artworks. Pffth. Without all the pageviews and favorites, they're only the same as everyone else.

That's why I just do it for fun.
I wouldn't care if NOBODY watched me. :)
I'd still have a good time just making art because it's my life and passion.

And one day I'm really gonna get somewhere with that. I don't need a million fans to do so. Only the willpower and determination and love of art. :aww:

Do you feel the same way?
If no one watched you, would you still draw just because you love it?
Cause I know that it will most certainly get you somewhere some day. ^^

That's true, I'd still draw if no one watched me. That's a good perspective.
